Dear Oliver,
You will always be my baby Ollie. You love to dance by shaking your little behind from side to side as far and as fast as your hips will take you. Your smile is ever present and contagious. You have your daddy wrapped around your little finger. The sound of your laughter brightens everyone around you. You adore your brother and will do anything he asks of you, unless you yell out a resounding, ‘No!’ Your brother adores you, too.
You are a daredevil. You like to jump from the couch to an ottoman and back again. You can climb to any level of surface in our house – including the banisters upstairs. Another favorite of yours is to get on top of the dining table to spin, swing, and try to pull down the chandelier. No height is too high. If you don’t feel safe jumping on your own, you ask for a hand to hold and still jump. Your sense of balance amazes me.
You have an amazing vocabulary. You say things like, “I love you, mama” and it melts my heart. You will try your best to say any word that someone says to you. I can’t begin to list your words because if I were to say a new one out loud, your own version would come right out. Most recently, you’ve been saying ‘Christmas tree’ and joining in when Aidan and I sing happy birthday to you.
Oliver, the joy you bring to this family is immeasurable. We are all so in love with you and grateful to have you in our lives.
Love,
Mama

When I have said my evening prayer,
And my clothes are folded on the chair,
And mother switches off the light,
I’ll still be 1 year old tonight.
But from the very break of day,
Before the children rise and play,
Before the darkness turns to gold,
Tomorrow, I’ll be 2 years old.
2 kisses when I wake,
2 candles on my cake.

This little birthday gnome found his way onto the table tonight. Where ever could he have come from? Hmmm.
Happy New Year!
