Pouring Candles

Happy St.Brigid’s day or Imbolc, whichever you choose.  ;)

We are truthful and helpful

And loving in trust

For our heart’s inner sun

Glows brightly in us.

We will open our hearts

To the sunbeams so bright

And we’ll fill all the world

With our heart’s inner light.

A star lantern gift alongside empty tea-lights waiting to be filled.

This past weekend, we continued our preparations for Candlemas by pouring some tea light candles from beeswax.  Our kitchen had that wonderful and warm honey scent as the beeswax melted down- much like the coziness and warmth that fills our home while bread is baking in the oven.  The boys weren’t able to take very active roles in this craft, but Aidan enjoyed putting the wicks in the tea-light holders before I poured the wax.  Most of all, they were happily playing around the kitchen as I worked and liked sniffing the freshly melted wax from the mason jar that I used for a double boiler.

Melting the beeswax in our ‘double boiler’, a mason jar in a sauce pot.

Our freshly poured tea-lights!

Two of these lights will go in the lanterns that my eldest son painted as a gift for his teachers on Candlemas.  A few more will go to the families in my parent/child class to light up the star lanterns that they created.  (To bad that I forgot them this week.  Sorry!)  The rest will be used in our own lanterns and I imagine we’ll be making more before we know it.  We have a few more activities that we’ll be doing tonight and tomorrow we’ll get to enjoy all our hard work.

Stay warm!
